The Achilles tendon runs down the back of your leg and attaches to your heel bone. When this tendon is inflamed or irritated, it is referred to as Achilles tendonitis. People with tight calf muscles and those with abnormal foot mechanics can be predisposed to this condition. Achilles tendon pain may be treated with orthotics, heel lifts, ice (for those without a medical condition that precludes it use), topical medications, and sometimes with immobilization or physical therapy.
